UTV vs. RZR vs. Maverick X3: Which Rental Is Right for You?
"UTV" is the umbrella term (Utility Task Vehicle, also called SXS for side-by-side), while RZR and Maverick X3 are specific model lines built for different kinds of riding. Here's how to think about picking between them for a day at Glamis.
2-Seat RZR — the default first choice
For most first-time visitors, a 2-seat RZR-class vehicle is the right starting point. It's powerful enough to be genuinely fun on the dunes, but the handling is approachable enough that a short safety briefing is usually all it takes to feel comfortable. If you're booking as a couple or a pair of friends with no prior UTV experience, this is almost always the recommended pick.
4-Seat RZR — same handling, more seats
If your group is 3-4 people and you'd rather ride together than split across two vehicles, the 4-seat version gives you the same approachable handling with more seating capacity. It's a slightly larger footprint, but the learning curve is comparable to the 2-seat model — the main tradeoff is size, not difficulty.
Family 6-Seat UTV — built for larger groups
For families with kids or larger groups who want to stay together, a 6-seat model trades some top-end performance for stability and seating capacity. It's a comfortable, manageable ride — the right call when the priority is everyone experiencing the dunes together rather than chasing bigger terrain.
Can-Am Maverick X3 — for riders who already know what they're doing
The Maverick X3 sits in a different category: long-travel suspension, a bigger turbo, and real performance built for riders who already have off-road seat time and want to push into more technical terrain. This is not the vehicle to start on if you've never ridden a UTV before — it rewards experience and can be genuinely more machine than a first-timer is ready to handle safely.
A simple way to decide
- Never ridden a UTV before? Start with the 2-seat or 4-seat RZR.
- Have real off-road seat time and want more performance? The Maverick X3 is built for you.
- Bringing the whole family, including kids? The 6-seat model keeps everyone together comfortably.
- Not sure? Book a guided tour first — riding with an experienced guide is a great way to figure out what you actually want before committing to a specific rental class on a future trip.
When in doubt, ask
If you're still unsure which vehicle fits your group, tell us your group size and experience level when you book — we'd rather put you in the right vehicle than have you rent something that doesn't match how you actually want to ride.
